Mark your calenders for Saturday, February 8th. We'll be celebrating Valentine's Day and Judy Blume! Festivities will begin at 1:30pm.

Meanwhile, if you're getting cabin fever with all this cold weather, come on down and warm up at the library. Pick up some books and movies to get you through the cold snap. If you want to thaw out, we have a wide selection of magazines and newspapers and plenty of comfy chairs and tables. Sit and browse until you're ready to face the cold again.

Weather Closing

As is our policy, we will be following the lead of the Mount Morris School and remaining closed tomorrow due to the dangerous weather.

Any items that are due tomorrow will not be charged fines for the days we were closed. Please bring your items in on Thursday, and we will take care of it for you.

New Year's Even Information

Important information

to remember for 

New Year's Eve! 

Preschool Story Hour will go on as regularly scheduled. Mrs. Gall is hoping to see all of our regulars (and maybe a few guests?) at 10:30am.

We will have a New Year's Eve party for children of all ages starting at 1:30pm on Tuesday. Snacks will be provided. If you remember last year, we had a terrific time! Hope to see you all there.

Following the party, the library will be closing early. We will remain open until 5pm.

Holiday Closures

The library will be closed on Tuesday, December 24th, so our staff can be with their families for Christmas.

National Game Day is almost here!

On Saturday, November 16th, Mount Morris Library will host game day. We will have stacks of games to choose from.

Play an old game or learn a new one!

Game Day will run from 11am til 3pm, and all ages are welcome.

Snacks will be provided.

Pleasure Reading ‘Significantly’ Increases School Performance

This was a terrific article on the benefits of pleasure reading.

I especially like this quote toward the end of the article:

"Children who were read to regularly by their parents at age 5 performed better in all three tests at age 16 than those who were not helped in this way."

There are so many benefits to reading aloud and reading for personal enjoyment. Make the library a regular part of your weekly schedule, we have lots to offer for all ages!

Disney Online Books Available Through OWWL2GO!

Did you know that the OWWL2Go collection now includes Disney online books? These are books that you don't need an eReader for, because they are viewed right on your computer. (Alas, they are not compatible with mobile devices.)

There are over 600 books in the collection, and as soon as you order them, you can get started! No waiting lists with these books.

Some of the books are read-alongs, some have games, all of them have a built in dictionary that will pronounce and give the definition of the word when it's clicked on.

The books are aimed at children in preschool through fifth grade, and may be checked out for up to 7 days at a time.

2013 Italian Festival

The library will be closed on Saturday while Mount Morris is hosting the annual Italian Festival. Please come visit our beautiful town and enjoy the many events going on.

Parking can be found at BOCES, where you can catch a shuttle bus uptown.

Vietnam Mailbag Comes to Mount Morris

The Mount Morris Library Presents:

The Mount Morris Library is pleased to offer the opportunity to meet Nancy Lynch, award-winning author of Vietnam Mailbag: Voices from the War, 1968-1972. On Monday, April 29 at 3:30 pm., Nancy will read selected war letters from her book at Theatre 101. Following her presentation, Lynch will be available to autograph and personalize her book.

Nancy Lynch’s 456-page book, Vietnam Mailbag, is based on the nearly 1,000 letters and hundreds of pictures her popular newspaper column received from our troops on the front lines during the Vietnam War. In her final column in December 1972 she promised “her guys” she would someday put all their correspondence and pictures in a book to honor them. Released on Veterans Day 2008, Vietnam Mailbag fulfills her pledge.

In 2009, her tribute, dedicated to all Vietnam veterans, won the first place gold medal from the Independent Publisher Book Awards competition for Best Non-Fiction in the Mid-Atlantic. Lynch, a Delaware resident, travels extensively to increase awareness of the service and sacrifices of our Vietnam veterans.

The University of Delaware graduate began her writing career as a staff reporter for

The News Journal in Wilmington, Del. For five years her celebrated column, Nancy’s Vietnam Mailbag, afforded our troops a unique opportunity to let those at home know where they stood on issues ranging from the war to the weather. Lynch’s column is believed to have been the only of its kind in the country during the unpopular war.

A freelance writer for many years, Lynch has contributed numerous articles to regional publications and magazines. She also has written six other books. For more information about Vietnam Mailbag, see Lynch’s website: www.vietnammailbag.com.

Calling all Young Authors!

This Saturday, April 6th, the Mount Morris Library will be hosting a kid's book writing event at 1pm. 

All children are welcome to come and work on their stories and prepare for the 2013 Young Authors and Storytellers Festival which will be held at SUNY Geneseo on April 27th. 

All kids in grades K-8 will then be able to register on Saturday for the free event on the 27th.
